Townsend Cabin & Vacation Rental Photography
The quiet side really is quieter.
Townsend really is the quiet side
Townsend has been calling itself the “Peaceful Side of the Smokies” forever. It sounds a little like something somebody came up with in a tourism meeting, but the annoying thing is—it’s pretty accurate.
I first spent time in Townsend in the late ’90s, and at first glance, it really hasn’t changed that much. It’s still laid back. The old-school IGA is still there. There are campgrounds and cabins scattered around, and you can drive through town without feeling like you’ve entered an amusement park.
But a lot actually has changed over the years, and mostly for the better.
There are some surprisingly good places to eat and hang out now. Peaceful Side Social is great for pizza, sandwiches and a beer. The Abbey is a cool spot right on Little River, and Dancing Bear gives you a genuinely upscale option when you want something a little fancier.
There’s more going on outdoors, too. Townsend hosts festivals and events throughout the year, and Vee Hollow has turned into a pretty impressive mountain-bike destination. But even when something is happening, Townsend rarely seems to have the same sense of chaos you get farther up the road.
And then there’s the national park.
You can swim at the Y, explore Little River, hike, fish, kayak, head into Cades Cove, or take Rich Mountain Road out of the Cove and wind up back toward Townsend. There’s a good greenway through town, and the whole area is surprisingly good for cycling. If being outside is the reason you’re coming to the Smokies, Townsend makes a lot of sense.
That’s probably what I like most about it. Townsend has changed without completely changing what Townsend is.
And that carries over to the vacation rentals. You don’t necessarily need a giant arcade, indoor pool and twelve televisions to make a property interesting here. Sometimes the reason somebody books a Townsend cabin is much simpler: a porch, some privacy, a river nearby, mountain scenery and easy access to the park.
That’s the story the photography needs to tell.

Ready to make your Townsend rental stand out?
Whether you’re launching a new cabin, updating an established listing, or just know your current photos aren’t doing the property justice, let’s make sure guests can see what makes it worth booking. You don’t need to be in Townsend for the shoot. If you manage your cabin from out of town, I can coordinate access with you, your property manager, cleaner, or other local contact and deliver the finished photography digitally.
