Wears Valley just feels different.

Wears Valley isn’t quite as far out as it used to be

Twenty years ago, Wears Valley felt pretty far removed from Pigeon Forge. But the valley has grown, Pigeon Forge has grown, and the distance between the two feels a whole lot smaller now—for better or worse.

The main road through the valley used to be pretty desolate. Today you’ve got restaurants, shops, a winery, even a food truck park. And Pigeon Forge is only about eight miles away when you decide you’ve had enough peace and quiet and need a mountain coaster.

But Wears Valley still feels different.

There are established cabin communities like The Homestead and The Preserve, but some of my favorite properties are outside the typical resort environment altogether. You tend to find more privacy, more land, and some genuinely spectacular views—both from the valley floor and from houses perched high in the surrounding hills.

It’s also one of my favorite parts of the Smokies if you like driving or riding motorcycles. You can jump onto the Foothills Parkway right in the middle of the valley and be on one of the best scenic roads in the area almost immediately. Line Springs Road gives you another route straight into Great Smoky Mountains National Park at Metcalf Bottoms, and Deals Gap is close enough to make a pretty easy day trip.

So Wears Valley hits an interesting sweet spot: beautiful homes, mountain views, privacy and quick access to the national park and Foothills Parkway, while the restaurants, attractions and general chaos of Pigeon Forge are still just down the road.

From a photography standpoint, those are exactly the things I want to show. A Wears Valley cabin isn’t just selling the house—it’s selling the space, the view and where you get to wake up in the morning.
